The Well’s Office Tower Wins Prestigious International Design Award

The Well has firmly established itself as one of Toronto’s premier destinations, and now the megacomplex at Front and Spadina adds another accolade to its list. Recently, one of its buildings received an international design award.

Award-Winning Design at The Well

The most striking feature of The Well on Toronto’s skyline is its 36-storey office tower at the northwest corner of Front and Spadina. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects for RioCan REIT and Allied Properties REIT, the distinctive office tower at 8 Spadina was honored at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Awards, winning in the Best Tall Building by Height (100-199 meters) category.

CTBUH Recognition

The annual CTBUH Awards, hosted by the Chicago-based organization, celebrate projects that significantly advance tall building design and urban environments, emphasizing sustainability and human well-being.

Innovative Architectural Features

The 1.2 million-square-foot office tower at The Well is unique in Toronto, featuring distinctive terraced massing with three stacked volumes. Its exterior boasts aesthetic elements resembling structural bracing and a unique projecting stairwell clad in metallic finishes on the north side.

Pedestrian-Friendly Design

Beyond its innovative design, the office tower is renowned for its pedestrian-friendly features, including a multi-storey opening at its base. This design invites pedestrians into The Well’s open-air, multi-tiered promenade beneath a large glazed canopy, known as the ‘spine.’

“We’re pleased to be recognized by the CTBUH for a project that we believe is a unique and highly contextual reimagining of the office tower,” said David Pontarini, Founding Partner of Hariri Pontarini Architects.
