Move over, Marilyn! Mississauga’s skyline now boasts a new focal point, as the M City towers have been awarded the ‘Award of Excellence’ for Best Tall Building by Height category (200-299 meters) by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). This accolade marks them as the best new builds in their height class globally.
M1 and M2: Crowned Champions in Tall Building Design
The first two towers in the expansive M City community, developed by Rogers Real Estate Development and Urban Capital, have made an international mark. Known as M1 and M2, these 62-storey condominium towers have surpassed global competition to claim the top spot in their class. The buildings feature innovative accordion-shaped designs by Toronto-based Core Architects.
Recognition and Impact
“We are thrilled to be recognized by a world-leading city building organization for the work we have put into delivering a best-in-class development in one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities,” said John Anderton, vice-president and treasurer of Rogers Telecommunications Limited. “M1, M2, and the entire M City community have truly enriched the City of Mississauga, cementing it at the forefront of city building and development on the world stage.”
Mississauga’s Tallest Buildings
In addition to this international recognition, M1 and M2 have also become the tallest buildings in Mississauga, surpassing the iconic Absolute World towers. However, this record may not last long, as several taller buildings are planned and under construction in the area, including within the M City community itself, ensuring it remains among the city’s tallest and most prominent structures.
The M City Community
Launched in 2017, M1 and M2 are the first buildings in the ambitious eight-tower master-planned M City community, which will eventually house thousands of residents. This development marks a significant milestone in Mississauga’s urban landscape, setting new standards for architectural design and urban living.
